Lloyd Toone: A Soulful Journey
Spartanburg, SC - Lloyd Toone - “A Soulful Journey: Mixed Media from Four Decades by Lloyd Toone”
The Milliken Art Gallery at Converse College will host “A Soulful Journey: Mixed Media from Four Decades by Lloyd Toone” Oct. 4-Nov. 1. The artist lecture will be at 3:00 and an opening reception, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
Originally from Virginia, Lloyd Toone is a Harlem artist and art teacher. His soulful expressions are celebrated internationally for the organic kinship and love that derives from growing up in rural Virginia raising livestock and cultivating the land. As well, his career as art therapist, educator, activist, historian, and his world travels influence his work greatly.
Toone will exhibit his watercolors and crayon-collages on board and paper since 1969. Also, his two- and three-dimensional sculpture works in ceramics and thematic applications of shoe soles will be on display. Toone’s life works evoke his intrinsic belief in the spirit of transformation and life coming full circle. For this, Toone has become an inspirational presence at the forefront of Harlem’s Second Renaissance.
Admission: Free Admission
Gallery hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. The Gallery is closed during school holidays.
